How to call a doctor in the train?
Every day lakhs of Indians travel by trains. Train journey is pleasant, but have you ever wondered what would happen if during a long journey, your health or any passenger sitting with you suddenly falls ill in a moving train? It is natural to be nervous. Many times travelers get worried just wondering what to do now, how to find a doctor? But let us tell you that Indian Railways has prepared a very important and useful solution to this serious problem. Railways has a system under which you can call a doctor in a moving train.
What is the method to call a doctor in the train?
In fact, this medical emergency facility of Railways is no less than a lifeline for every passenger. Whenever a traveler’s health problem suddenly increases, what is the first step to be taken? First of all, you have to immediately inform the ticket checking staff present in the train, i.e. TTE, without any delay. TTE will take your issue seriously and will immediately inform the train control room. The control room will then come into action and keep a doctor ready to examine the passenger at the next major station of the train. As soon as the train stops at that station, the doctor will immediately come in the coach and see the patient and provide necessary treatment. As simple as this process seems, it is equally effective. This facility is available in all types of trains, i.e. mail, express and passenger.
nominal fee of ₹100
This facility provided by the Railways is not completely free, but you do not have to pay a huge amount for it. Railways have fixed a nominal fee of ₹100 for calling a doctor. When the doctor comes to the station and examines you and gives necessary first aid, you will have to pay this fee of ₹ 100 to the doctor. The doctor will also give you a receipt for payment of fees. Apart from this, if the doctor prescribes any medicine to the patient, the cost of that medicine will have to be borne by the passenger separately. That is, ₹ 100 is the doctor’s consultation fee, the money for the medicine will have to be paid separately.
Provision of free medicine for stomach ache, fever and vomiting
Many times it happens that the passenger does not have any major or serious problem. During travel, people often suffer from general problems like mild fever, body ache, vomiting, diarrhea, or any kind of allergy. Railways has another facility for these minor health problems. Even if your health deteriorates due to such common reasons, the first thing you have to do is inform the TTE. TTE will bring one dose of medicine from the first aid kit kept in the guard’s compartment and provide it to the passenger. The best part is that the passenger does not have to pay any fee for this single dose medicine. This medicine is completely free.
Which number to call in emergency?
To make this entire process even easier, there is also a national helpline number. According to railway officials, if a passenger’s health deteriorates during the journey and the TTE or guard is not available immediately, then the passenger can directly call the railway helpline number 138. By giving information on this number, the control room gets the information and medical help is ensured at the next station. Whether you inform TTE or call 138, in both ways you can avail emergency medical facilities.
