Buerger Disease: Consumption of cigarettes and tobacco not only poses a risk of cancer, but it can also cause rare diseases that may even require amputation of arms and legs. The name of this disease is Burger’s disease, which is also called thromboangiitis obliterans.
The disease occurs in 12-20 people out of 1 lakh. A report by the National Library of Medicine has claimed that out of every 1 lakh people in the whole world, 12 to 20 people suffer from this disease. However, more cases are reported in India as compared to America and Europe. In India, about 45 to 60 percent of patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) have Barger’s disease. Let us tell you that PAD is a disease in which there is a problem of narrowing of the arteries and also reduced blood flow in the hands and legs.
Know what is Burger’s disease? According to doctors, most of the people who smoke suffer from Burger’s disease. In this, the blood vessels of feet, hands and fingers start swelling, due to which the blood flow reduces. Due to which clotting also starts in the blood vessels. At the same time, due to insufficient blood reaching hands and feet, the risk of infection increases. Due to which the tissues start getting damaged, which takes the form of gangrene. In severe cases, amputation of the limbs affected by gangrene may also be required.
