T20 World Cup 2026 Semifinals Rules: Now a close battle is going to begin in the T20 World Cup 2026, which is called the knockout stage. Where even a single defeat can shatter the team’s dreams of winning the trophy. The semi-final matches are going to start from March 4, and there is an atmosphere of excitement among the fans. The first semi-final will be between South Africa and New Zealand, which will be played on March 4 at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata from 7 pm. At the same time, Team India will face England in the second semi-final, which will start at 7 pm on March 5 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The teams losing in these matches will be out of the tournament.
If this happens, both the semi-finals will be played on the same day.
ICC has made special rules for knockout matches. Due to which, in a situation, both these matches can be played on the same day. In fact, keeping in mind that rain or bad weather should not spoil the fun of the matches, ICC has kept a reserve day for both the semi-finals. If the first match on March 4 is not completed due to rain, it will be played on March 5. Similarly, if the second match on March 5 is affected, it may be shifted to the next day.
The special thing is that if the first semi-final is played on the reserve day, then both the semi-finals can be held on the same day i.e. on March 5. This rule of ICC has been made so that the schedule of the tournament is not affected much and the date of the final is not affected. However, if both the semi-finals are held on the same day, the timing of the matches will be different. According to the rules, the game will start at 3 pm on the reserve day. With this, the timings of both the matches will not clash with each other, and the fans will be able to fully enjoy both the important matches. Extra time is also given on the match day, but more flexibility has been kept on the reserve day so that the result can be determined.

This rule has been made keeping in mind the importance of knockout matches, where no team should suffer losses due to weather. The final will also be held under similar rules, but at present the focus is on the semi-finals. This period is exciting for the fans of Team India, because the match will be against England on home ground. A tough competition is also expected between South Africa and New Zealand. The winning teams of these matches will compete to win the trophy on March 8.
