US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The US has issued a notification to impose an additional 25 tariff on India. The country will be targeted on August 27 in a few hours from 12 noon on August 27. After this, the tariff on products going from India to America will increase to 50 percent. But, there are 3 conditions if they are fulfilled, then some Indian products will be saved from 50 percent tariffs. They will not have to face additional fees.

The US administration decided to impose additional tariffs on India this morning. There was no talk about tariffs between the two countries, due to which the Trump administration did not extend the tariff date forward.

These are the conditions for exemption

  1. Condition of loading of goods- If the goods sent from India have been loaded on the ship on 27 August 2025 at 12:01 am (American time, EDT) and left towards America, then it will not be charged additional duty.
  2. Entry condition- If that goods reaches the market for consumption in the US before (EDT) on 17 September 2025 at 12:01 am or reach the market to sell in the market, then it will not be additional tariff.
  3. Certificate condition- India will have to prove in front of the American Customs (CBP) that the goods fall under in-transit discounts. For this, they have to declar the new code HTSUS Heading 9903.01.85.

Trump’s tariff on the country

On August 7, Donald Trump increased the tariff (import duty) on India from 25% to 50%, as India is running trade with Russia. Trump feels that this will make Russia President Vladimir Putin Ukraine forced to negotiate on war. He also gave 21 days time for this. Trump accused India that he is promoting Ukraine War by purchasing cheap crude oil from Russia. But India defended its business and said that it would continue business with Russia. Earlier, PM Narendra Modi had clearly told the US that the interests of Indian farmers and small industries are the first priority of the government.
