The Airport Economic Regulatory Authority issued an adhoc tariff order for Noida International Airport (NIA). The operator informed the authority on August 13 that the inauguration is expected in October 2025. How much will UDF have to pay?

For Noida International Airport, the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority has set an Ed Hawk UDF of Rs 490 and each department domestic passager of Rs 490 and every department of Rs 980. Those coming from domestic flights will have to pay Rs 210 and Rs 420 on international arrows. Tax will be added to all charges. This adhoc fee much less than the operator’s proposal will be applicable till 31 March, 2026 or till the regular order is issued.

In its early years, this airport will mostly handle domestic passengers and by March 2030, more than 94 per cent of passengers are expected to fly within the country. The operator has estimated 57 lakh domestic passengers and 2.4 lakh international passengers for the current financial year. By FY 2030, the airport is expected to handle more than 1.7 crore domestic passengers and 1 million international passengers.

Arara’s order also includes landing and parking charges of various categories aircraft. The operator has estimated a capital expert of Rs 7,209 crore for the first phase, so that the NIA will be able to handle 1.2 million passengers (CPAs) annually. In later phases, the capacity is expected to increase to 3 CPA. Next, second terminals and runways will be developed in stages to increase the capacity first to 5 CPA and then 7 CPA. The introduction of each new phase will begin after 80 percent of the existing capacity. The Uttar Pradesh government has planned to create additional terminals and runways in the future to make NIA one of the world’s largest airports.

How much UDF in IGI

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) of Delhi – India’s busiest and one of the top 10 in the world with four runways and three big terminals – the capacity of one of the world – has expanded to 10 CPA. In 2024, it handled 7.8 crore passengers. In IGIA, passengers currently have to pay UDF between Rs 129 and Rs 810, in which taxes are extracted additional. The fees are usually high in new projects as developers have to recover capital investment, while the IGIA has already recovered a large part of its expenses.

NCR’s second international airport

According to the order, NIA will be the second international airport of NCR and will complement the IGIA to meet the aviation demand of the region. It will work as Primary International Airport for major cities like Noida, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Agra etc. and will be the entrance to various pilgrimage and tourist destinations. This airport was originally to be operationalized by April 30, 2025. Now it is being said to start it in October 2025. Now it has to be seen whether the purpose of which this airport has been constructed is able to fulfill it or not.
