‘If I give not Rs 10 thousand, but even Rs 1 lakh, Muslims will not vote for me’, why did Assam CM say this… | Himanta Sarma Claims Ideology Not Money Drives Muslim Votes In Assam

According to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, votes in the state are decided by ideology, not by schemes or money. He said that Muslim voters would not vote for him despite paying money and expressed concern over the increasing Muslim population in the state.

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the voting pattern in the state is not decided by government schemes or money, but by ideology. He said that whether it is Rs 10,000 or Rs 1 lakh, no matter how much money I give, no Muslim voter will ever vote for him. This reply of the BJP CM came when he was asked whether there is any scheme like Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s ‘Women Employment Scheme’ to woo voters before the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, in which Rs 10,000 is being given to 21 lakh women. He was participating in the program ‘Agenda Aaj Tak 2025’.

Himanta Biswa said- Even if I give one lakh, these people will not vote for me

He said, “Even if I give Rs 1 lakh, a large section of the society will not vote for me. Once a voter from the Muslim community praised my work and even said that he is ready to donate his kidney if needed. But he will never vote for me. Votes are not decided just by schemes or government help, but by ideology. People vote not for benefits, but for ideology.”

He said, “I am not blaming anyone. It is very easy to think that giving schemes will automatically get votes. While in government, it is important to implement schemes for the people, but to believe that this alone will get votes is a wrong assumption.” He claimed that if the Muslim population in Assam exceeds 50 percent, other communities will be wiped out.

The existence of the native Assamese people is in danger due to uncontrolled migration that has been going on for decades. Citing figures, he said that with a continuous growth rate of 4-5 per cent since 1961, the Muslim population in Assam is estimated to be around 38 per cent in 2021. By 2027 it will increase to 40 percent. The Chief Minister said that if the Muslim population exceeds 50 percent, other communities will not be able to survive, only they will be left. He also said that he has very good relations with Miyan Muslims and women in the state. Muslim voters may support Congress, but only their government will win.
