Taking a big decision on the World Test Championship (WTC), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has once again handed over the final three chakras final matches to England.
As per the latest ICC press release, the finals of WTC 2027, 2029 and 2031 will be played on England’s soil. Earlier, there were speculations that the final of 2027 could be held in India, but now these speculations have come to a complete halt.
ICC decided in Singapore meeting
The annual meeting of the ICC was recently concluded in Singapore, in which many important issues were discussed. The meeting discussed the support of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (India) and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 (England). In this meeting, the ICC also announced hosting the upcoming three finals of the World Test Championship.

Where have the WTC final played so far
So far, three finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) have been played and all three have been held on the soil of England. The first final was held in Southhampton in the year 2021, in which New Zealand defeated the Indian team by 8 wickets to win the title. This was followed by the second final in 2023 at The Oval ground in London, where Australia won by defeating India by 5 wickets. The third and the most recent final till date was played in 2025 at the historic Lord’s ground, in which South Africa defeated Australia by 5 wickets to become the first champion. So far, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa – All three teams have won the World Test Championship title once.
WTC final in England again from 2027
It has now been decided that the World Test Championships of 2027, 2029 and 2031 will also be held in the hosting of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). It is clear from the ICC’s decision that there is no plan to shift the final of the World Test Championship outside England at present.
