South Africa faced the Sri Lankan team in the 18th league match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. This match was played at Colombo’s R. Played at Premadasa Stadium, where South Africa achieved a big victory. With this, South Africa also achieved victory in the tournament. Like other matches in Colombo, this match too was disrupted by rain, due to which this ODI match was played in 20-20 overs format.
Sri Lanka’s batting was a flop
In this match, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first, but they could not take advantage of it. In the first 12 overs, the Sri Lankan team scored only 46 runs and lost 2 wickets, after which the game had to be stopped due to rain. The match started once again after about five and a half hours, but the match was reduced to 20-20 overs. But the Sri Lankan team could not do anything special and could score only 105 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
Vishami Gunaratne scored the highest 34 runs for Sri Lanka. Apart from her, no other batsman could touch the 20-run mark. On the other hand, for South Africa, Marizanne Cap and Nonkululeko Mlaba took 3-3 wickets. Whereas, Masabata class took 2 wickets and Nadine de Klerk took 1 wicket.
Laura Wolvaardt played captaincy innings
However, under the Duckworth Lewis rule, South Africa was given a target of 121 runs to win this match. But this target proved to be small in front of the innings of captain Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Britts. Stormy innings were seen from both the batsmen. Laura Wolvaardt scored unbeaten 60 runs in 47 balls, which included 8 fours. Whereas, Tazmin Britts returned unbeaten after scoring 55 runs on 42 balls. Both these players achieved this target in just 14.5 overs and helped South Africa win by 10 wickets.
