ICC rankings: Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy becomes No.1 T20I bowler for first time

New Delhi: India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy on Wednesday achieved a new high in his international career by becoming the No.1 T20I bowler in the latest ICC T20I rankings. Varun jumped to the top spot in ICC’s T20 International Bowlers’ Rankings for the first time in his career and became only the third Indian to achieve the feat.

“India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been rewarded for his consistent form in 2025 by becoming the No. 1-ranked bowler on the latest ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings,” the ICC said in a statement.

Chakravarthy followed the footsteps of fellow Indians Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi to reach the top of the rankings in the shortest international format.

The Karnataka cricketer has been a mainstay in India’s T20I lineup over the last 12 months, emerging as one of the most consistent performers in the past year and being rewarded for his strong performances. The 34-year-old spinner overtook New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy at the top of the rankings.
