Pakistani batter Gul Firoza has been penalized during the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup for violating the ICC Code of Conduct.
The incident occurred during a match against Hong Kong on September 8, where Firoza was given out LBW in the fifth over. Disagreeing with the decision, she indicated her bat, claiming the ball had touched its edge.
As a result of her actions, Firoza has been fined 10% of her match fee and has received one demerit point on her record. This marks her second disciplinary offense within a 24-month period, bringing her total demerit points to two. She previously received a point for an incident on June 23 during a Women’s T20 World Cup League match against Australia.
Firoza accepted the penalty proposed by Supreeya Rani Das, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, which eliminated the need for a formal hearing. The charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Rabab Ahsan and Rokeya Sultana, along with third umpire Shivani Mishra and fourth umpire Shathira Zakir.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct, Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of a reprimand, with fines reaching up to 50% of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points. Under the ICC’s disciplinary system, accumulating four or more demerit points within a 24-month span can lead to suspension points, which could result in a ban from matches.
Firoza’s case highlights the importance of sportsmanship and adherence to umpire decisions in international cricket.
