Ranbir Kapoor said at Subhash Ghai’s event Whistling Woods that despite nepotism, he had to create his personal vision to survive in the film industry. He also believed that as important as success is, it is equally important to learn from failure.

Ranbir Kapoor On nepotism: Kapoor family is counted among the most prestigious families of Bollywood. Ranbir, a member of its fourth generation, said that to survive in the industry, he had to adopt a personal vision and prove his talent separately.

“I am a victim of nepotism and I got it very easily in life, but I always had to work hard because I realized that I come from such a family and if my vision is not personal and if I am not able to make a name for myself, then I will not be able to succeed in the film industry.” The Animal actor said, “You guys celebrate my family’s success, but there are many failures too, and you learn as much from failure as you do from success.”

Ranbir, son of legend actor Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, addressed a session titled ‘Tribute to Great Showman Raj Kapoor and Guru Dutt’ during the ‘Celebrate Cinema 2025’ festival at filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s film institute Whistling Woods.

The actor said, “How do I feel about being born in this family? For me, it was just like any other normal family, I didn’t know anything better.” He further said that he grew up watching music directors, singers and lyricists coming to his house and writing songs for his grandfather Raj Kapoor’s films. He said, “There used to be a lot of arguments, but they were all professional. They used to argue over the correct lyrics of a scene or a song.”

Ranbir, known for films like “Wake Up Sid”, “Rockstar”, “Barfi”, “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” and “Animal”, said he learned very early in his life that filmmaking is a collective effort.
