‘I didn’t say, give it to me’: Trump claims Nobel Peace Prize winner called him

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump, on Friday, claimed that Nobel Prize winner Maria Corina Machado had called him after winning the award. Trump said that the Venezuelan activist called him and said that she had accepted the prize in his honour.

The US President added that he had extended his assistance to Machado on several occasions, underlining the time when the country had witnessed a disaster. The White House further claimed that the Nobel Committee had chosen “politics over peace”, criticising the decision to grant the peace prize to the Venezuelan Opposition leader.

Trump claims to save lives in Venezuela

Speaking to the reporters at the White House, Trump said that Machado called him and said that she has accepted the prestigious award in his honour. “I didn’t say, ‘Give it to me’, though. I think she might have… I’ve been helping her along the way,” the US President added. He mentioned the recent disaster in Venezuela, highlighted his assistance and boasted how he saved “millions of lives”.

Trump in the past had repeatedly expressed his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, highlighting the fact that he ended seven wars. Addressing the huge gathering, Trump said that he stopped the wars of “Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kosovo and Serbia, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, Rwanda and the Congo.”

‘Maria  is a brave and committed champion of peace’

The Norwegian Nobel Committee claimed Maria Corina Machado as a “brave and committed champion of peace” and said that the Prize has been awarded to a “woman who keeps the flame of democracy burning amid a growing darkness. “Peace laureate Maria Corina Machado has shown that the tools of democracy are also the tools of peace. She embodies the hope of a different future, one where the fundamental rights of citizens are protected, and their voices are heard,” the committee said.

Hours after receiving the Nobel Prize. Machado dedicated the award to Donald Trump. Sharing a post on X, Machado said, “I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!”
