Chicago Slice star Zane Navratil posted a video from the MLP Dallas playoffs with a caption that read, “Pretty quiet weekend at MLP Dallas.” The sarcasm wasn’t misplaced, the clip captured one of the most talked-about moments of the weekend, and Navratil was right at the centre of it.
The drama unfolded during Chicago Slice’s playoff clash against Palm Beach Royals, a series Palm Beach eventually won 2-0 to knock Chicago out of the competition. The flashpoint came in the men’s doubles match, where Navratil and his partner John Lucian Goins faced off against Casey Diamond and Dekel Bar.
Things got heated when Bar went for an aggressive body shot on Navratil. Navratil fired back hard, catching Diamond near the shoulder, and then let out a loud, extended yell towards the Palm Beach side. It was a moment of raw emotion that quickly became the story of the day.
Navratil didn’t shy away from it afterwards. In a video posted on his own channel admitting he’d gone too far. “I pretty much lose my mind… There’s a line, and I crossed it. I shouldn’t have reacted the way that I did and that’s on me,” he said.
The aftermath was awkward too. Dekel Bar reportedly refused to shake Navratil’s hand after the match, and later called the outburst “embarrassing and unhinged” in an online reply. Fans were split, some backed Navratil for showing genuine passion, while others felt he’d crossed a line.
This kind of intensity isn’t unusual for , a league known for its louder, more personality-driven atmosphere compared to other pro pickleball tours. Navratil, who also serves as president of the UPA Pro Player Committee, has often spoken about the value of showing emotion on court, though even he admitted this time it went further than it should have.
With Chicago’s season now over, Palm Beach Royals move on to the next round of the playoffs, carrying plenty of momentum after a hard-fought win.
