A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Araul, Kanpur. A bullion trader attacked his two innocent sons with a brick, killed one and then committed suicide by consuming poison. The old case related to wife’s death is in discussion again.
Kanpur. In the house where children’s laughter should have resounded, there was silence stained with blood. This incident that came to light from Araul town of Kanpur is not only heart-wrenching, but has also left many unresolved questions. On December 19, a bullion trader attacked his own two innocent sons with a brick and then committed suicide by consuming poison. This tragedy has shocked the entire area.
Horrible action of bullion trader
45-year-old Ajay Katiyar alias Lalu, resident of Hasimpur village, was running a bullion shop named ‘Om Jewellers’ in Araul town for the last ten years. He had built a house in the town itself, where he was living with his two sons, 13-year-old Rudra and 7-year-old Shubh. On Friday, Ajay fatally attacked both his children with a brick.

Old case related to wife’s death
What makes this painful incident even more mysterious is the death of Ajay’s wife Alka. On December 19, 2022, Alka died after falling down the stairs under suspicious circumstances. At that time, the maternal side had accused Ajay of murder by hitting him with a brick. The matter reached legal process, but later a settlement was reached. Under the agreement, Ajay had given his five bighas of land and the house in Araul in the name of his two sons.
Creepy scene found inside a locked house
When Ajay’s father Ram Shankar reached Araul on Friday, he found the shop closed. When they reached home, the door was locked from inside. Even after calling several times, no response was received. When he became suspicious, he informed the police. When the police reached the spot and broke the door, everyone was stunned to see the scene inside.
One son died, condition of the other critical
Both the children were found lying soaked in blood inside the house. Younger son Shubh died on the spot, while elder son Rudra was found seriously injured. He was immediately admitted to LLR Hospital, where his condition remains critical. Ajay himself was found lying unconscious on the floor.
Hope broken in hospital, pain reflected in suicide note
The police immediately took Ajay to the Community Health Center, but the doctors declared Ajay and Shubh dead. As soon as information about the incident was received, senior police officers also reached the spot and investigation was started.
Police also found a suicide note from the spot. In the note, Ajay has written, “Give birth to as many children as you can raise. I am taking the children with me because I don’t know who to leave them with.” This note has made the whole matter even more emotional and horrifying.
What did the police officer say?
According to DCP West Dinesh Tripathi, preliminary investigation has revealed that Ajay had earlier attempted suicide by hanging himself, but when he failed, he drank poison. A noose was found hanging in the courtyard, while a blood stained brick and pesticide bottle were recovered from the room. It is suspected that Ajay first attacked the children and then committed suicide.
Local people say that Ajay was under financial and family stress for a long time. After the death of his wife, he was raising the children alone. The police is thoroughly investigating the entire matter.
