‘I am proud of her’: Sunny Leone lauds Mouni Roy for standing up against harassment on stage

Mumbai: Actress Sunny Leone lauded fellow actress Mouni Roy for standing up after she faced public harassment while performing at a program. Sunny stated that she could understand what Mouni was going through.

“Maybe those people were a lot closer to her, and I am glad she spoke up. I am proud of her for taking that stand that it’s not okay, as it’s not. I think in the US, it was happening with a lot of artists on stage, and they got extremely angry with that behaviour. I am happy Mouni did this,” said the actress.

Sunny also shared a personal experience. “I haven’t gone through something like what she has, and if anything is happening in my surroundings during my performance, I don’t even notice that. I am usually in my own world when I am performing. It’s just seven to eight minutes of my life, so I just go on stage, perform and then I am out. I am not paying attention to what’s happening,” said the actress.

She added, “It’s pure madness, usually what’s happening around during such performances. I performed at a New Year’s event, and there were 12000 people around, so I wasn’t noticing what was happening there and if someone was saying anything. I was just focused on doing my job. But having said that, the audience should respect the artiste.”

During last New Year’s Eve, Sunny was scheduled to perform Mathura. However, her performance was called off after protests claimed it was against the city’s image.

Sunny’s comments came after Mouni’s unfortunate experience. Explaining the situation, she stated, “Had an event in Karnal last night, and I’m disgusted with the behaviour of the guests, especially two uncles who are well-aged to be grandparents. As the event started and I walked towards the stage, uncles and family members (all men) put their hands on my waist to click pictures (sic).”
