‘I am just a public servant, Opposition not interested in Parliament debates,’ Jyotiraditya Scindia at WITT 2026 Summit

New Delhi: TV9 Network’s prominent flagship thought forum, What India Thinks Today (WITT) Summit 2026, returned for its fourth edition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi headlined the summit as he delivered a keynote address at the TV9 Network’s signature thought event.

During an interaction at TV9 Network, Minister of Communication Jyotiraditya addressed the media on the second day of the summit. Jyotiraditya’s session was titled ‘राजपथ से जनपथ.’ Scindia began by commenting on parliamentary functioning, stating that India is the world’s largest democracy.

Responding to a question on no debates in Parliament, Scindia said Parliament does not belong only to the government; the ruling side presents its policies, whereas the opposition offers its views. The Minister of Communication criticised the opposition for a lack of willingness to participate in a well-mannered debate.

“If there is no intent to run Parliament or hold discussions, what can the government do?” he asked. Scindia referred to the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, stating that members are allotted speaking time based on their strength in the house, and Congress received more than its due share, but despite that, Gandhi decided not to speak and let other members speak on his behalf. The issue of the Speaker’s impeachment was also raised by Congress; he said it was “rare in Indian parliamentary history.”

Talking about various leaders leaving Congress, the Union Minister said, “It is an orginasational decline,” adding that any successful brand, such as TV9, depends on strong public acquisition, satisfaction, and retention.

Speaking on his personal journey, Scindia said he considers himself a ‘public servant’ rather than a politician. He also opened up about taking up any other profession rather than being a politician by saying he spent over six years as an investment banker, but his fortunes took him on another journey, which he loved the most.

‘Ashtalakshmi’ of India

Sharing his opinion on the Northeast, Scindia highlighted that the government has a strong focus on Northeast India. It all commenced when PM Modi described the region as ‘Ashtalakshmi’ and positioned it as India’s future growth engine. The Union Minister pointed out that while the global economy is growing at around 2-2.5 per cent annually, India is growing at nearly 7 per cent, but if we look at the Northeast, it has been growing at 10-13 per cent over the past decade.

Furthermore, Scindia pointed out the infrastructure growth in the Northeast, including new airports in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim and enhanced connectivity among state capitals, such as bridges and road networks.

Concluding on a personal note, Scindia said his connection to both Madhya Pradesh and Delhi remains strong, as he continues to work across regions driven by national priorities rather than political identity.
