A single model has pretty much dominated the affordable seven-seater space in India. The Ertiga sits at the top, selling in huge numbers every month, with the Carens Clavis as the only real rival. But that’s set to change, as the Korean automaker plans to bring in its new wallet-friendly seven-seater in India. Here’s what we know so far. New Hyundai 7-Seater Coming
Currently, Hyundai doesn’t offer an affordable MPV in India. The automaker is now planning to fill that space with its new offering, the Stargazer. This model is already on sale in Southeast Asian markets and is now set to make its way here. Design-wise, itit’sypically a Hyundai model with connected headlamps up front, connected taillamps at the rear, and a Van-like design. What sets it apart is its dimensions: while the Ertiga measures 4.3m, this Hyundai MPV measures 4.61m, making the 300mm difference noticeable. This difference should translate into a genuinely roomy cabin, with second and third rows built for longer trips rather than occasional use.
Features
In its global avatar, the Stargazer offers a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, wireless charging, TPMS, and an ADAS suite. It is a loaded MPV when compared to the Maruti Ertiga. Furthermore, to sweeten the deal for India, this Hyundai MPV could also pack additional features like a panoramic sunroof and powered front seats.
Powertrain
The Stargazer runs on a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine (113 bhp & 144 Nm) in global markets, which is adequate for a car of this size, though it might feel underpowered to some. However, it would be interesting if Hyundai extended the 1.5-litre diesel option with this engine, which would help it get more demand. Moreover, Hyundai could also offer a CNG powertrain with this seven-seater, which could further help it go toe-to-toe with the Maruti Ertiga.
Expected Launch & Pricing
Hyundai has not announced the exact launch timeline of this MPV yet. However, we expect it to launch around late 2027 or early 2028. That’s a long time to go, but it could be worth it. Pricing-wise, we expect this seven-seater to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 22 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
