Hyundai Ioniq P Electric SUV Trademarked In India – Launch in 2027

Hyundai Motor India has trademarked the ‘Ioniq P’ name, which is expected to be used for the brand’s upcoming compact electric SUV. Codenamed HE1i, the model is expected to go on sale in India by March 2027. It will be the smallest and most affordable Hyundai EV in the country. In terms of pricing and positioning, the Hyundai Ioniq P will compete with select variants of multiple models including the Kia Syros EV, Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.

While the official powertrain specifications, features and variant-wise details will be revealed closer to its launch, here’s what we know so far about the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq P.

Design Highlights

Spy images show a boxy and tall design with a squarish front fascia. The EV is expected to feature a closed-off grille, sporty bumper in gloss black finish, an upright windshield, LED headlamps in split setup, LED DRLs and a squared-off bonnet. The lower section of the front bumper was spotted with integrated four parking sensors and a camera.

Despite being a compact EV, the Hyundai Ioniq P appears relatively long, thanks to its short overhangs to its front and rear axles. The side profile will be further enhanced by 17-inch alloy wheels, diamond-cut alloy wheels, black ORVMs with integrated cameras for the 360-degree camera and roof rails. At the back, the new Hyundai electric SUV will sport horizontally positioned LED taillamps along with integrated four parking sensors and camera.

Interior & Features

The Hyundai HE1i will be the brand’s first car in India to feature the new Pleos Connect in-car infotainment and software platform. The EV will also get a steering column mounted gear shifter.

Expected features include a single-pane electric sunroof, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charging, wireless smartphone connectivity, auto folding ORVMs, a 360-degree camera, multiple airbags, Level 2 ADAS and more.

Imported Battery Packs

Built on Hyundai’s dedicated E-GMP (K) born electric car platform, the upcoming Hyundai compact EV will be offered in two version – Standard Range and Long Range. The carmaker will import battery cells from China’s Svolt instead of sourcing locally manufactured units from Exide as initially planned.
