Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a Nepali gang stole gold and silver articles after tying up an aged couple in their house in Hyderabad, police said on Wednesday. The gang committed the crime at the house of the elderly on May 11. While the husband is an international arbitrator, his wife is a pathologist.
Nepali woman emerged as prime suspect
Sharing details, the police said that a Nepali woman has emerged as a prime suspect in the case. A repeated offender, she was earlier involved in another offense in the Moinabad area of the city nearly three years ago. The couple employed the Nepali couple a few days ago through an agent. The prime suspect used to visit the house frequently.
How did the crime take place?
On the day of the incident, other gang members entered the house on the pretext of celebrating a birthday party. The gang members then tied the elderly couple and put them in a room, even as the husband and wife requested them not to harm, news agency PTI reported.
It is further suspected that the accused administered sedative-laced liquid to the elderly, after which they fell unconscious. Soon the accused stole gold and silver articles, apart from a two-wheeler, from the house. The entire loot was worth Rs 16.5 lakh, the police added.
The elderly woman managed to raise the alarm
It was on Tuesday that the woman managed to raise the alarm after reaching near the window. It was then that a passerby noticed and informed the police. While a case has been filed in the incident, the police have formed teams to nab the accused. It is suspected that the accused might have fled from Telangana.
