In the sensational case of the ruthless murder of three innocent children in the district in June 2024, the court sentenced mother Priyanka to death and her lover Ashish alias Danny to life imprisonment within just a year.
The court described the crime as “rare to rare” (rarest of rare) and said that this incident is going to shock the soul of society.
Who was the accused and what is the matter?
Priyanka and her lover Ashish were in mutual relations. Priyanka had four sons – Sonu (9), Madhav (6), Aditya (4), Mangal (2). According to the police, after the death of her husband, Priyanka considered her children to be interrupted in her new relationship and conspired to remove them from the road.
How did the incident happen?
On 27 June 2024, Priyanka and Ashish took the four children to the banks of the Sanger River and first fed the intoxicating substance and then threw three children into the river one by one.
Only Sonu somehow survived. Local people took him out of the river and rushed him to the hospital. After regaining consciousness, Sonu revealed the complete misdeeds of his mother and her lover. His testimony became decisive in the whole case.
What was the court’s decision?
Additional Sessions Judge Saif Ahmed said in this case:
- ‘This is not murder, Mamta, morality and killing of social values.’
- Priyanka was hanged and fined ₹ 2.5 lakh.
- Ashish fined life imprisonment and a fine of ₹ 1 lakh.
- 75% of the fine will be given to Sonu so that her upbringing and safety can be ensured.
Government lawyer’s argument
Government lawyer Abhishek Mishra told the court: ‘This is not just a crime, but is the blood of Mamta by a mother. This case is worth hanging. However, the court sentenced Priyanka to death, while Ashish was given life imprisonment.
How did the matter be revealed?
Priyanka’s brother -in -law first reported the missing children to the police. During the investigation, the bodies of the three children were recovered and a charge sheet was filed after forensic investigation. Sonu’s testimony and medical report became important evidence in this case.
