Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission held a grand function on International Human Rights Day. Justices, officials and trainee students spoke on the theme “Our Daily Needs”. Special emphasis was laid on brochure distribution and public awareness in the programme.
Lucknow. On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, a grand program was organized in the auditorium of Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission, Lucknow. Honorable Justice Dr. D.K. as the chief guest. Arora and Honorable Justice Sudhir Saxena were present as special guests. Senior member of the Commission, Justice Rajiv Lochan Mehrotra, Member Brij Bhushan, Director General of Police Sandeep Salunke, Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Law Officer Alpana Shukla, Joint Secretary Ved Prakash Dwivedi, Finance and Accounts Officer Ankita Mishra, Assistant Secretary Alok Yadav and all the employees of the Commission participated on this auspicious occasion. This year the theme of 2025 was kept “Our Daily Needs”.
Reflections on Internship Students’ Engagement and Themes
U.P. Interns from the ongoing Winter Internship Program at the Human Rights Commission—Ayush Pathak, Shruti Mehta, Antara Shukla and Divyanshi—also participated in the function and shared their views on the theme of Human Rights Day “Our Daily Needs”. Secretary Sanjay Kumar welcomed the chief guests, special guests, officials, lawyers, media representatives and trainees and discussed in detail the importance of Human Rights Day.
Chief Guest’s Address: Reasonable Limits on Fundamental Rights
Chief Guest Justice Dr. D.K. Arora said in his address that the right to speak or any fundamental right is not absolute. Reasonable and reasonable restrictions have been imposed on these rights. He said that every person is equal in the eyes of law. He also explained under what circumstances the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was made and what is its significance.
Special guest’s address: Dignity begins at home
Special guest Justice Sudhir Kumar Saxena said that dignity begins at home. He laid special emphasis on the need to maintain the dignity of women and girls in the society.
Senior Member’s Views: Clean Air and Right to Live
Senior member Justice Rajiv Lochan Mehrotra said that whether the rights are fundamental or legal, we have to protect them. He also described breathing clean air as a human right. According to him, if every person embraces the oath of human rights, then the need for other laws will be greatly reduced.
Statement of Human Rights Commission member
Commission member Brij Bhushan said that all the rights given to citizens come under the category of human rights. It is very important to secure the fundamental rights of every person. He said that the Commission helped many disabled and poor persons who were not able to access justice due to financial constraints.
Director General of Police’s gratitude and thanksgiving
Director General of Police Sandeep Salunkhe thanked the chief guest, special guests, members, officers, advocates and students for attending the function and sharing their views. He praised the staff of the Commission for successfully organizing the event.
Release of brochure for program operation and public awareness
The program was conducted by Alpana Shukla, Law Officer (Higher Judicial Service) of the Commission. Under his direction, the commission’s constitution, functions, powers and procedure for filing complaints were included in a detailed brochure. The brochure also explained how assistance could be obtained from the Commission in case of human rights violations. This brochure was also distributed during the function so that the general public could easily understand the functioning of the Commission.
