Hugo Ekitike: Liverpool agree £79m deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker

New Delhi: Liverpool have agreed a £79m (€91.5m) fee with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign French striker Hugo Ekitike, who is expected to is expected to arrive in the UK on Tuesday (July 22) for a medical and to finalise a six-year contract with the Reds.

Liverpool have reportedly kept some staff members in the UK to complete the signing, and once the transfer is completed, the player is likely to fly to Asia to join the team on their pre‑season tour later in the week.

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have reached a total agreement with Frankfurt worth £79m with a £69m fee upfront plus £10m in add-ons. The bonus payment (£10m) will be dependent on the on-field success of Liverpool.

Liverpool approached Frankfurt for Ekitike earlier this week after being informed by Newcastle United that Alexander Isak is not for sale.

Ekitike is eager to join reigning Premier League champions Liverpool after Newcastle had an offer rejected for the talented striker.

Can Ekitike replicate his Bundesliga success in the EPL?

The 23-year-old star did not take the field in Eintracht Frankfurt’s pre-season game against FSV Frankfurt on Saturday. Following the match, Frankfurt boss, as quoted by Sky Germany, said Ekitike’s potential exit is “a bitter loss”.

Ekitike caught the eye with a prolific 2024-25 season, scoring 22 goals in 48 games across all competitions. He played a key role in Frankfurt’s fruitful campaign, which saw them qualify for the Champions League.

Ekitike started his professional journey as an 18-year-old at Reims and spent half a season on loan at Vejle Boldklub in Denmark.

The very next season, he joined Ligue 1 giants Paris St-Germain on a season-long loan, which was converted into a permanent move the following year for a £30.6m fee.

He won two league titles with PSG before being loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2024. The German club signed him permanently that summer.
