BJP Worker Police Assault Hubli: During the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign of the voter list in Hubli, a controversy has come to light which has brought both the politics and police administration of Karnataka under the scanner. A BJP worker has alleged that the Keshwapur police not only beat him while detaining him but also tore his clothes. The police is vehemently rejecting these allegations and claiming that the entire matter is related to “drama” and “false allegations”. What is truth and what is lie?

SIR What happened during the drive?

This whole matter started when SIR campaign of voter list was going on in Keshwapur area. BJP workers were present with the officials, which was objected to by Congress councilor Suvarna Kallakuntla and her supporters. He said that a Booth Level Officer (BLO) should not accompany workers of any one political party.

BJP worker’s claim: beaten and clothes torn?

The BJP worker alleges that the police forcibly caught him, beat him, and during this his clothes were torn. She said videos of the incident also exist, which show male and female policemen. The activist says that he was only present in the SIR process, but due to political pressure he was targeted.

Why is the police story completely opposite?

Police claim that when they arrived to arrest him, he snatched the policemen’s mobile phones, resisted arrest and created a ruckus. According to the police, after calling the female policemen, she herself tore her clothes and pressurized them to make a video. According to the police, Prashant Bommajji, a citizen, lodged a complaint that he was assaulted by BJP workers and others after he raised questions on the presence of BJP workers during the SIR. Why were questions raised on the role of BLO?

Congress councilor Suvarna Kallakuntla says that the root of the controversy is BLO Nandini Kulkarni, who had come to SIR with BJP workers. He alleges that the BLO should have either gone alone or called booth agents of all political parties.

DCP’s shocking statement: ‘Drama by taking off clothes’?

DCP Law and Order Mahanand Nandgavi claimed that the accused woman kicked, bit the policemen and created a ruckus by removing her clothes herself. He also said that many cases like honeytrap, blackmailing and obstruction are already registered against the accused. Police Commissioner N. Shasikumar and other senior officers reached Keshwapur police station and reviewed the case.
