Huawei Pura 80 Series Launched in China With Four Models and Bold Camera Upgrades

Huawei has officially lifted the curtain on its new flagship smartphone lineup, the Pura 80 series. Announced in China, the series includes four models: the standard Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, Pura 80 Pro+, and the Pura 80 Ultra.

Each model introduces varying degrees of hardware sophisticationparticularly in the camera departmentwhile all share a common design language and HarmonyOS foundation.

Pura 80 Ultra: A Showcase of Advanced Optics

The Pura 80 Ultra stands out as the top-tier offering and is priced accordingly, starting at CNY 9,999 (roughly ₹1,18,900) for the 16GB + 512GB version and going up to CNY 10,999 (about ₹1,30,800) for the 1TB storage variant.

The Ultra model sports a 6.8-inch Full HD+ LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and high-frequency 1,440Hz PWM dimming for eye comfort. It runs HarmonyOS 5.1 and packs a 5,700mAh battery with support for both 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.

But the most interesting hardware lies in the camera setup. The Ultra features a 1-inch 50MP primary camera, a 40MP ultrawide, and a 1.5MP spectral sensor dubbed the “Red Maple.” The real innovation is the switchable telephoto systema single 50MP sensor with two lenses offering 3.7x and 9.4x optical zoom. A movable prism allows this hybrid system to switch between focal lengths, making it possible to capture distant scenes without quality loss, all with the benefit of sensor-shift optical image stabilization.

Pura 80 Pro and Pro+: Familiar Foundations With Minor Tweaks

The Pro and Pro+ variants serve as middle-ground options between the standard and Ultra models. Both share much of the Ultra’s hardware DNA, including the 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display, HarmonyOS 5.1, and 5,700mAh battery with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.

Their camera systems also rely on 1-inch 50MP main sensors. However, instead of the Ultra’s switchable telephoto lens, both the Pro and Pro+ opt for 48MP macro telephoto cameras with up to 4x optical zoom. This is still a premium imaging setup and is geared more toward close-range flexibility rather than long-distance framing.

In terms of pricing, the Pro+ starts at CNY 7,999 (roughly ₹95,100) for the 512GB model and reaches CNY 8,999 (₹1,07,000) for the 1TB option. Meanwhile, the Pro variant begins at CNY 6,499 (around ₹77,300) for the 256GB model, and scales up to CNY 7,999 for the 1TB variant.

Both models also feature dual satellite communication via Beidou and Tiantong systemsa feature that has become a defining addition in Huawei’s premium range.

The Standard Pura 80: A More Accessible Flagship

Huawei has yet to reveal the price or sale date for the base Pura 80, but its hardware still aims to deliver a competent experience. It features a slightly smaller 6.6-inch screen and a 5,600mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.

On the camera front, the Pura 80 uses a 50MP main shooter and a 12MP periscope telephoto lens with up to 5.5x optical zoom. It also includes a 13MP ultrawide and the same 1.5MP spectral sensor found in the other models.

Though not as feature-packed as its siblings, the base Pura 80 retains HarmonyOS 5.1 and the 13MP front camerasuggesting consistency in the user experience across the series.

The Chipset Mystery

Curiously, Huawei hasn’t disclosed any chipset details for any of the Pura 80 series phones. It’s likely the company is continuing with its Kirin-based SoCs.

Availability

Currently, only the Pro, Pro+, and Ultra models are available in China through Huawei VMall. There’s no word yet on international availability.
