Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan is one of the most loved film stars in India. He comes from a family of influential film personalities, including his father, actor-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, and his uncle, musician Rajesh Roshan.

But not many know that his grandmother was also a renowned Bengali singer. In a recent post, the Krrish actor paid homage to his family’s roots by celebrating his “25% Bengali Blood.” He was seen wearing a pink-and-white kurta set with traditional Bengali embroidery on the hem. When a curious fan asked about his background, he fondly spoke about his “dida.”

When a fan asked, “Your grandmother was a Bengali, right?” The War 2 actor responded, “Yup, my dida.”

About Hrithik Roshan’s Grandmother

Hrithik’s Bengali heritage comes through his paternal grandmother, Ira Moitra (née Roshan), a Bengali music sensation from Kolkata. As a young woman, Ira was a trained singer whose voice was heard on All India Radio in Delhi.

She also contributed musically to several films, including Anokhi Raat (1968), Shakka (1981), Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage (2002), and Prateeksha (2006). She even sang a duet with Lata Mangeshkar for Anokha Pyar (1948) and completed recording a film score left unfinished when her composer husband, Roshan Lal Nagrath, passed away suddenly.

Her musical legacy and Bengali roots remain an important part of Hrithik’s family heritage.

Work Front

Hrithik was last seen in War 2 alongside Kiara Advani and Jr NTR. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the spy action thriller failed to impress fans and critics, and later underperformed at the box office.

He is now working on the much-awaited Krrish 4. Reports about Priyanka Chopra coming onboard as the female lead have been circulating on social media, but the makers are yet to share an official announcement.
