In Katihar, Bihar, the husband doubted the wife’s character because of the fair complexion of the newborn child. Due to this suspicion, he murdered his wife by slitting her throat. The accused is absconding and the police is searching for him.
Katihar: At the time of birth, most children are white, no child is born black or white. But a man killed his wife just because the child was born fair. This incident took place in Narayanpur village of Aabadpur police station area of Katihar district of Bihar. Seeing the fair complexion of the child, the husband became suspicious of his wife’s character and killed her by slitting her throat. The accused is absconding after the incident and the police is searching for him.
The husband was dark and the child was fair.
The wife of Sukumar Das, resident of Jalki village of Azamnagar police station area, had given birth to a son only three months ago. They already have a son, but when the second child is born very beautiful, Sukumar Das begins to doubt his wife’s character. Sukumar’s complexion was dark, so he doubted how a child could be so fair. His suspicions were further fueled by his neighbours.
Neighbors increased husband’s suspicion
His friends and neighbors started making fun of him, saying, “You are black, then how come your son is so fair? How can this be?” This deepened his suspicion that the child was not his. For this reason, Sukumar Das started quarreling continuously with his wife Moushumi Das. During this time, his wife Moushumi tried hard to convince him that the child was hers. But instead of decreasing, Sukumar’s suspicion kept increasing. He started looking at every action of his wife with suspicion and started troubling her daily by asking about the father of the child.
The accused used to fight with his wife on this issue every day.
Fed up with the daily fights at home, the wife went to her maternal home in Narayanpur. But Sukumar reached there also and started harassing her. There he murdered his wife by slitting her throat. Regarding the incident, Sukumar Das’s father-in-law Shashthi Das told that his son-in-law had come home on Wednesday, where the in-laws tried to convince him. But Sukumar did not calm down and that very night when everyone was sleeping, he murdered his wife by slitting her throat. The family members came to know about this the next morning.
When the door of the room was opened and the family members went there after hearing the continuous crying of the child, they saw the dead body of Moushumi Das lying in a pool of blood. After committing the murder the accused fled from there. Moushumi’s family members immediately informed the police. Police reached the spot and sent Moushumi’s body for postmortem. Police are searching for the accused who is absconding since the incident. Overall, due to her husband’s suspicion, an innocent child became orphan.
