How to watch Samsung Galaxy XR launch: Specs, price and expected features

New Delhi: Samsung is preparing to launch its new generation extended reality headset, the Galaxy XR, at the ‘Worlds Wide Open’, which will be conducted on October 21, and India will watch it on October 22. The streaming of the launch will take place through the official YouTube channel of Samsung. The company is offering a device that combines both AI and immersive experiences in various form factors.

The Galaxy XR is one of the attempts by Samsung to venture into mixed-reality technology, with its superior specifications and advanced features to appeal to entertainment and productivity. There are early indicators that the headset would compete with Apple Vision Pro and have a lower weight and smaller form.

How to watch the Galaxy XR launch?

The video event will be viewed on the Samsung YouTube channel by the fans. It will start at 10 pm ET (07.30 am IST). The livestream may show the first glimpse at the Galaxy XR and other possible surprises, which include the preview of the first tri-fold smartphone by Samsung, the Galaxy Z TriFold.

Galaxy XR: Features and specifications

Galaxy XR will be powered by Android XR with Gemini AI that will provide smart navigation and contextual help. It will probably run the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chip and will come with 4K micro-OLED displays with a combined 29 million pixels, which is more than the Vision Pro of Apple. The headset will weigh approximately 545 grams, which is less than its Apple equivalent, and it may be fitted with adjustable straps on the head to ensure that it is comfortable. The battery should have a life of about two hours with an optional external pack to increase battery life.

The headset may have several external sensors, four cameras on the inside to track the eyes and a depth sensor to facilitate gaze, hand gesture and voice interactions. Apparently, its interface is said to work with apps like Samsung Camera, Gallery, Google Maps, YouTube, Netflix, and the Play Store, indicating wide third-party compatibility.

Galaxy XR pricing and market position

The Galaxy XR is likely to have a lower price of between $1800 and $2900, which is relatively expensive compared to that of Apple’s Vision Pro M5, which has a starting price of $3499. It is believed that the device will be a big stride towards Samsung making a successful entry into the extended reality market.
