Yashvir Singh Silver Medal: “One man’s loss is another man’s gain”. The proverb rings true for Indian javelin thrower Yashvir Singh, whose path to the 2026 Asian Games opened only after Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra withdrew due to injury.
Handpicked in the squad as a replacement following a personal call from Chopra, Yashvir seized the moment by winning a silver medal in the men’s javelin with a personal best of 85.72m at the Aichi-Nagoya on Monday.
“I am feeling very good. This is my second international tournament. The first was the Commonwealth Games. I won a bronze there. I registered a PB there. Now, in the Asian Games, it’s a silver. I have registered another PB here,” he said after clinching the Silver medal for India.

“Bhai, Meri Injury Hogaye Hai”: What Neeraj Told Yashvir
Yashvir was not even a part of the javelin squad for the 2026 Asian Games. But as it says, “His ways are higher than our ways,” one day after rigorous training with his father, Rai Singh, he got a call from Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra. “At that time, I was training and was at home. I was resting when I got a call from Neeraj bhai,” Yashvir recalled.
He told me, “Brother, I’ve suffered an injury. Talk to them further so that your name can be considered in my place.” An excited Yashvir then contacted the authorities, and his name was included in the Indian contingent. On Monday, he proved his contention with a podium finish.
Sudden Phone Call to Asian Games Glory
The Asian Games call-up may be sudden, but Yashvir’s recent performances have put him in contention for the squad. At the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, he won a bronze medal in the men’s javelin throw, with a personal best of 85.41m. At the same event, Chopra finished second with a season-best effort of 85.83 meters.
Yashvir’s podium finish at the 2026 Asian Games showed that he simply needed the platform to perform. He didn’t need time to prepare. He proved that overnight success is merely years of silent preparation meeting a sudden opportunity.

“Olympics Sapna Hai”
Yashvir’s next target is the Olympics now. Celebrating his success, he said, “Olympics sapna hai. It is everyone’s dream, and it is mine too. I want to correct my mistakes as soon as possible. I will try to fix the mistakes, improve further, and deliver an even better performance next time. I will give my best going forward.”
The phone call was only the beginning; Yashvir intends to write his legacy with an Olympic medal finish.
