Question: What is the rule of celibacy for a householder?
Premanand Ji Maharaj’s answer: One should do intercourse only once after eight days of menstruation, this is the method as per the scriptures. Once a disciple asked his Guruji that we have got married, how will life go on now?
Guruji replied, “Make a coincidence once a year.”
The disciple said, ‘This is not possible.’
Then Guruji said, ‘Once in six months.’
The disciple said, ‘This is also difficult.’
Then Guruji told the method of scriptures, it is appropriate to do the conjunction once in a month.
Premanand ji further said, ‘In today’s time, people have sex five or eight times a month, and are still alive – that is the big thing. When substances like one maund (about 40 kg) of food, water and milk are digested in the body, it produces sperm capable of producing a child. Those who destroy it again and again, their life force becomes weak. Therefore, only that householder is called a celibate who is devoted to one wife and has sexual intercourse only once in a month for the purpose of having a child, this is what is said in the scriptures.
Question: What if the aim is not to have children?
Premanand Ji Maharaj’s answer – Still there is no permission for adultery. This is not allowed in the scriptures. However, if a husband and wife have sexual intercourse once a month, even if there is no intention of procreating a child, it does not constitute a sin.
