Delhi Police’s SWAT commando Kajal Chaudhary was murdered for dowry.
After the murder of Delhi Police commando Kajal Chaudhary, a question is rapidly emerging that how Kajal, who was a member of the SWAT team, was killed by her husband. Whereas Kajal has gone through very strict training. The members of this team are capable of defeating the enemy as soon as they sense danger; perhaps the attack may have been a deceitful one. You will have respect for your husband. Don’t raise your hand on your husband, this must be the thought in your mind.Respect for her husband and respect for her relationship may have prevented her from answering. If she was determined, she could have defeated such idiots in 2 minutes.
Let us understand with this excuse that how difficult is the training of SWAT commandos? How difficult is the selection process in this team?
Special security squads are known by different names in India
SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics). The word SWAT is commonly heard in media and film contexts. In reality, similar tasks in India such as high-risk arrests, hostage/hostage rescue, rapid response during terrorist attacks, VIP protection, special forces conducting close-quarter combat in buildings operate under different names.
Police commando units of states, special weapons/tactical teams of big cities, ATS/Special Operations groups and some elite forces at the national level can all be involved in SWAT-like operations. Although the structure and curriculum of each organization is different, the basic structure of training and selection largely follows the same principles. Their basis is fitness, discipline, shooting skills, teamwork, and ability to take decisions under pressure.
The case of murder of SWAT commando Kajal Chaudhary is in discussion.
Why is the selection considered so difficult?
Selection for Commando/Tactical teams is difficult because it is not enough to be a good policeman, but you have to become an operator who can take right decisions under high stress and in short time. In a normal duty, time and resources may be available, but in a special operation, the situation can sometimes change in a matter of seconds. The team has to work amidst crowd, darkness, closed space, armed criminals, presence of innocent people etc.
How does training become difficult?
There is a high demand for physical ability. Long runs, sprints, hill/stair climbing, weight lifting movements, and continuous hours of activity are the primary requirements for the members of this team. Remaining steadfast despite lack of sleep, pressure, noise, confusion and suddenly changing orders is an important part of the responsibility of its members. Safe handling of weapons, trigger-discipline, target identification, and the ability to prevent misfire are a must for every member.
Instead of being a lone hero, it is important for every member to follow the rhythm of the team, follow orders, and work on common standards. Every member’s credibility, record, behavior, and responsibility are evaluated.

General structure of commando training in India
The curriculum and duration vary from state to state and force, but the broad outline is as follows.
- Base Fitness and Conditioning: Training often starts with the foundation. Running, Strength, Functional Fitness, Mobility, and Injury-Prevention. At many places, there is emphasis on load-bearing (moving and running with kit/weight) because in operations one has to move with body armour, helmet, weapons, magazines, radio, medical kit etc. This stage is also important because many candidates are fast but fall out due to injury or overtraining. Durable stamina and recovery ability are useful in long races and all these are the basis of selection in this special team.
- Weapon Training and Shooting: Marksmanship for tactical teams is not just target shooting. These include strict adherence to safety rules, reflex shooting (correct shot in short time), fire from behind cover and shooting with movement, low light or flashlight techniques, target identification (identifying the correct person/threat), jam/malfunction drills (immediate repair if the gun gets stuck) and being extremely careful. In India, appropriate use of force and accountability are also taught as per rules and operational context. When to stop, when to proceed, and how to complete the mission with minimal risk.
- Close Quarter Battle (CQB) and Building Intervention: This is part of what people call SWAT style. Entry of rooms, corridor movement, stairs, doors, dealing with corners, and clearing with the team etc. are the main objectives. The issues that are focused on in CQB are not speed but controlled speed, avoidance of cross-fire, understanding team lines and angles, communication (hand signals, short calls), keeping hostages/innocents from harm are also the main objectives and these are taken care of in training.

- Arrest and Control, Non-Lethal and Hand-to-Hand Skills: Firing is not an option in every situation. Therefore is often involved in training. Safe restraint of the suspect, handcuffing, search, and escorting techniques, situation control in crowd/disorder are prescribed limited force methods.
- Tactical Driving, Rappelling/High-Angle and Special Skills:Tactical driving (convoy, interception, rapid evacuation) as required in some units,Rappelling, rooftop entry, and operations from high altitude, basic bomb/IED awareness, team coordination, communication and radio protocols, map reading/basic navigation.Medical/Tactical First Aid (stopping bleeding, casualty drag, first aid) etc. is an important part of the training.
- Stress-Test and Final Exercise:At the end of the training there are often several hours, several days of scenario-based exercises. Like mock hostage, building search, operation at night, limited information, constantly changing role. It is in this phase that it is known which candidate remains safe, communicative, and team-oriented even under real pressure.
Kajal Chaudhary murder case
The basic question is that how did SWAT commando Kajal Choudhary, who defeated the enemy in a moment, lose to her husband? This question seems like a social narrative. Commando training makes any male or female officer competent in operational situations, but the complexities of domestic disputes or personal relationships cannot be resolved by force.
In real life, winning/losing is often not determined by physical ability, but by emotional pressure, legal/social boundaries, psychology of relationships, and circumstances. Sometimes even the trained person chooses to avoid violence, de-escalate the situation, or limit response due to law/discipline. Which people from outside wrongly call defeat. This is inappropriate
What is a real commando?
Being a commando or tactical operator does not just mean being strong. His real identity is determined in this way.
- Discipline: Following rules, safety, and responsibility
- Teamwork: Not alone, perfect coordination with the team
- Decision Ability: Right choice even with less information and more pressure
- Mental Strength: Control despite fear, fatigue and chaos
- Focus on public safety: While completing the mission, safety of innocent people is primary.
This type of training is rigorous in India because the cost of a mistake in actual operations can be very high. That is why selection is not just a fitness test but a holistic assessment of character, skills, and performance under pressure.
