It was earlier the kingdom of Bhati Rajputs, which was settled by Bhupat, son of Bhati Raja of Jaisalmer in the year 1295 AD. Then Bhupat named it Bhatner after his father. Bhatner was a very important place then, because it was situated on the Delhi-Multan highway. Traders from Central Asia, Sindh and Kabul used to travel to Delhi and Agra via this Bhatner route.

In Rajasthan, Hanumangarh was carved out of Ganganagar district and made a district in the year 1994. It became the 31st district of Rajasthan. Seven tehsils of Ganganagar district located in Bikaner division, Sangaria, Tibbi, Hanumangarh, Pilibanga, Rawatsar, Nohar and Bhadra were made part of the newly created Hanumangarh district. Presently Hanumangarh district headquarters is situated on the banks of Ghaggar river. Ghaggar River is considered to be the present form of the last mythological river Saraswati.

Ghaggar river is also called Nali in the local dialect. This river divides the district headquarters Hanumangarh into two parts. Hanumangarh city is situated in the north of this river and Hanumangarh Junction is situated in the south. Hanumangarh town is a major center of commercial activities. All other major offices including the District Collector’s office are located in Hanumangarh Junction.

He has told in his recent research that the historical area of ​​Tarain, which became the battlefield between Mohammad Ghori and Prithviraj Chauhan, was none other than the Talwara lake area of ​​Hanumangarh district. Contemporary writers and historians have called Talwar Lake as Mauj-e-Aab. At the same time, Bhatner Fort has been called Tawar Hind Fort.

In this, a beautiful statue of Goga ji is sitting on the back of a horse with a lance in his hand. A serpent is depicted around his neck.

Apart from these, Gogamadi village of Hanumangarh is also famous. It has religious importance. Gogamedi Fair and Gogamedi Mahotsav are organized here in the memory of Shri Goga Ji. Kalibanga, which identifies the Indus Valley Civilization, is located in this district. The ancient historical site Kalibanga falls in Pilipanga tehsil area of ​​Hanumangarh.
