Eci on Bihar sir: During the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, a difference of 65 lakh names has been recorded in the draft voter list. The Election Commission (ECI) issued a PC on Friday as the reason for this difference. According to the Commission, nomination papers were distributed and downloaded for a total of eight crore voters, out of which only 7.24 crore forms could be collected by booth level officers (BLO). The Commission said that the forms of the rest of the voters could not be found because they had become voters in other states/union territories, or their existence was not found, or they had not submitted the form till 25 July, or were not willing to register as voters for some reason.

Difference in statistics

According to the Election Commission, there were 22 lakh deceased in this difference of 65 lakhs, 36 lakhs had permanently gone out of Bihar or were not available, while the remaining seven lakhs were registered in many places. The Commission says that the aim of SIR is that no eligible voters should be left out and no ineligible voter list is included.

The period of filing claim and objection continues

The Commission said that real eligible voters can add their names to the voter list during the claim-objection period between August 1 to September 1, 2025. So far, no political party has filed any claim or objection regarding the draft voter list. However, since the publication of the draft list on 1 August, the Commission has received 6,257 claims and objections directly from voters.
