The first round of the Ranji Trophy ended on Saturday (October 18). Many India stars were in action during the first round of the season and some of them lived up to the expectations.
Rishabh Pant, who is recovering from a foot injury, is likely to play the second round of the domestic tournament. He plies his trade for Delhi. As the players now gear up for the second round of Ranji Trophy, here we have a look at how some of the stars fared in the season opener –
Arjun Tendulkar
Arjun was in action for Goa in the first round of the Ranji Trophy. The left-handed batsman was dismissed for 1 off 6 balls. Goa put on a huge total of 566 on the board and they defeated Chandigarh by an innings and 75 runs. Arjun bowled 11 overs in Chandigarh’s first innings and scalped a wicket. He scalped another wicket in their second innings.
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj had a memorable run with the bat in both innings against Kerala. The former Maharashtra captain scored a valiant 91 off 151 balls on a tough batting pitch on day 1. The right-handed batsman continued his form and was unbeaten on 55 when both captains shook hands. Maharashtra took the first innings lead.
Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw struggled in the first innings on his debut for Maharashtra and departed for a four-ball duck. The former Mumbai batsman scored 75 off 102 balls in their second innings. He missed out on a well-deserved century for his new team. Shaw switched his base to Maharashtra before the ongoing season.
Ishan Kishan
Ignored for the home Test series against West Indies, Ishan Kishan sent a message to the selectors as he slammed 173 off 247 balls. Courtesy of his ton, Jharkhand put on a total of 419 on the board. Tamil Nadu were dismissed for 93 and 212 across two innings and lost the game by an innings and 114 runs. Narayan Jagadeesan, who pipped Kishan for a place in the Test team, scored 24 runs.
Mohammed Shami
After contradicting chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Shami delivered with the ball and took a seven-fer against Uttarakhand in Bengal’s 8-wicket win. Shami was shockingly ignored from the ODI squad for the Australia tour. Shami hasn’t played for Team India since the 2025 Champions Trophy final.
