The death of a 24-year-old girl living in Pocharam IT Corridor area of Hyderabad has shocked the entire country. According to the police, this whole incident started on March 11. Accused Manohar and the victim are relatives and their families wanted to get them married.
But when the girl refused to marry Manohar, Manohar went mad with anger. He forcibly entered the girl’s house and injected her with HIV infected blood.
Social stigma and mental stress
After the injection, when the girl’s parents got Manohar’s family tested, it was revealed that Manohar’s parents were already HIV positive. Manohar was also found positive in the investigation. The girl was devastated after this revelation.
According to the Police Inspector of Pocharam IT Corridor, the woman was going through severe mental stress. He was afraid of how the society would view him. Fighting this social stigma and emotional trauma, he finally committed suicide by hanging himself in his house on Friday.
Accused Manohar arrested, investigation continues
A month after the incident, when the girl took this suicidal step, the police arrested the accused Manohar in view of the seriousness of the matter. Police say that Manohar had infected the girl out of revenge.
At present, the police is investigating all the aspects and trying to find out whether Manohar’s family also had a hand in this conspiracy.
Expert opinion: Psychological fear of HIV
Psychologists believe that in this case, more than physical illness, ‘psychological infection’ took the girl’s life. The misconceptions about HIV in the society and seeing it as a ‘stigma’ scared the girl so much that she saw death as the only way out.
