Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra on Tuesday criticised Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma after the latter allegedly did not extend Eid greetings to the people of the state for the festival.

Taking to X, Dotasra wrote, “I pray that the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb (culture) remains safe. Every person in the state is a family member of the Chief Minister. The goodwill message of the Chief Minister on every festival of the citizens reflects his sentiments as the head of the family which is ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah Sarve Santu Niraamayaah’.”

The Sanskrit shloka translates into “May all be happy; may all be free from illness.”

“Because the Chief Minister does not represent any party ideology but every citizen of the state. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma ji is the head of 8 crore people of Rajasthan, but yesterday he did not wish the people of Rajasthan on the holy festival of Eid,” Dotasra said.

“This behaviour of a Chief Minister is not only hurtful towards the mutual love and brotherhood in the state, but also shows the feeling of discrimination towards its citizens. The people of the state did not expect this from the Chief Minister at all,” Dotasra said.

Over the last couple of days, the X handle of Sharma, @BhajanlalBjp, has extended greetings for Rajasthan Diwas, Chaitra Navratra, Nav Sanvatsar, Cheti Chand/ Bhagwan Jhulelal Jayanti, Gangaur festival, Bhagwan Matasya Jayanti, Odisha Foundation Day, the Jayanti of RSS founder K B Hedgewar, and commemorations on the death anniversary of Gujjar reservation agitation leader Colonel Kirori Singh Bainsla, among other posts. The Chief Minister’s official handle @RajCMO too did not post Eid greetings either.

While the CM skipped the greetings, BJP state president Madan Rathore extended his greetings while quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message on the same. In the past, Ashok Gehlot and Vasundhara Raje have extended Eid greetings as Rajasthan CM.
