Honda’s Upcoming Electric V3 Engine Teased For The First Time, Sounds Like This

New Honda V3 Engine: It has been around nine months since Honda announced the development of a new 75-degree water-cooled V3 engine, to be offered with instant torque delivery regardless of revs (RPM). This is thanks to the electric compressor technology. Cut to the present day, Honda has released a teaser video where the intake noise of the electric compressor can be heard.

Honda V3 Engine Details

Through the teaser, Honda has offered more details surrounding its new V3 engine, the major talking point being a dyno graph showing the engine running at 2,738 rpm, with about 1,148 hours of runtime recorded. Apart from that, the upcoming V3 engine will be accompanied by an exhaust note, likely to be distinctive and rough in tone, if we go by the teaser.

According to Honda, the V3 engine, which is planned for larger-displacement machines, is designed to be compact and features a three-cylinder V-arrangement with forced induction. The layout consists of two forward-facing cylinder heads and a single rear cylinder head positioned at a 75-degree angle. The main frame is a tubular trellis unit.

As for the electric compressor, the technology can be seen as Honda’s new approach towards boosting output at low and medium revs. It doesn’t run off exhaust gases, unlike the turbochargers, and stands independent of the engine for power. It awaits the command of the Electronic Control Unit to maximise air flow into the engine, thereby eliminating lag.
