The Uttar Pradesh government has declared a public holiday across the state on 7 October 2025 on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. All government offices, school-colleges and institutions will remain closed. This decision is considered cultural and socially important.
The Uttar Pradesh government has given a great news for the people of the entire state. On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government has declared a public holiday in the entire state on 7 October 2025 on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. The decision came into force as soon as the mandate was issued on Saturday. On this day, all government offices, educational institutions and semi -government establishments of the state will be closed.
Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti gets special status at the state level
The government has described this holiday as an important step towards honoring Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti at social and cultural levels. This festival is celebrated every year on the Shukla Paksha Purnima of Ashwin month. This year this date is falling on 7 October. Maharishi Valmiki is known as Adikavi and the author of Ramayana, who gave a new direction to Indian culture and social harmony through his writing.

Government decided on demand of public
The representatives of Valmiki Samaj had long demanded that this day be declared a public holiday again. Until a few years ago, the state was discharged on the occasion, but was later abolished. Now the Yogi government has reinstated this holiday from the year 2025 and honored the cultural tradition. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced it during the program in Shravasti district a week ago.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that Maharishi Valmiki gave the message of unity, harmony and truth to the society through Ramayana. His teachings are still the cornerstone of social harmony. The Chief Minister has appealed to the public to adopt Valmiki ji’s ideals and create an atmosphere of peace and respect in the society.
Special programs will be held across the state
On the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, special worship, processions and cultural programs will be organized in temples and ashrams across the state. The organizations of Valmiki Samaj have expressed their gratitude for this decision of the government and described it as the restoration of cultural pride.
