Why is the Ruby Pillar special?

The ancient pillar in the Narasimha temple of Purnia is called Manikya Stambh. People believe that by breaking this pillar in Satyayuga, Lord Narasimha had protected the devotee Prahlad and killed Hiranyakashipu. The special thing is that there is a natural hole in this pillar in which if a stone or any other object is inserted then after a long time the sound of its falling is heard. That is why it is said that the depth of the Ruby Pillar is till the underworld.

State festival takes place every year

Considering the antiquity of this place, a state festival is organized here every year on the occasion of Holi by the state government, in which thousands of people participate and worship Lord Narasimha. Once upon a time there used to be the city of Hiranyakashipu

Local people believe that in Satyayuga, there was the city of demon king Hiranyakshipu here. King Hiranyakashipu, angry with his son Prahlad’s devotion to Vishnu, used to torture him in various ways. Finally Hiranyakashipu tried to kill his son by burning him in the fire along with his sister Holika. But Prahlad escaped safely even from this fire. In this happiness, the people here played Holi with colors. That is, it is believed that the world’s first Holi was played here. Here a 40 feet idol of Holika is made and burnt.
