Places Where Holi Not Celebrated: Today, on the Pratipada date of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month, the holy festival of Holi is being celebrated all over the country. People have been hugging each other by applying colors, gulal and abeer. Holi colors are seen scattered all over the country. Generally, on hearing the name of Holi, a picture of gulal, hubbub and gaiety is created in our mind. There is great enthusiasm for this festival in almost every corner of India.

However, very few people would know that there are some villages in our country where there is silence on the day of Holi. According to mythological beliefs, Holi is not celebrated in these villages due to curses and religious traditions, so let us know about these unique places of the country.

Rudraprayag

Kurjhan and Quili villages are located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. The colors of Holi have not been seen in these two villages for the last 150 years. That means Holi is not celebrated here. The residents here believe that their revered goddess, Tripura Sundari, does not like noise and hubbub. There is peace in both these villages on the day of Holi only because of the devotion and respect towards the Goddess.

Durgapur (Bokaro)

People of Durgapur village (Kasmar block) located in Bokaro district of Jharkhand have not been playing Holi for more than a century. It is said that 100 years ago, the son of the king who lived here died on the day of Holi. Later the king himself died on the day of Holi. Before dying, the king had ordered that Holi would not be celebrated in the village. The villagers believe that the person who breaks this tradition will either face trouble or die.

Ramsan Village (Banaskantha)

Holi has not been celebrated for the last 200 years in Ramsan village (ancient name Rameshwar) located in Banaskantha district of Gujarat. There is a mythological belief that Lord Rama came here during his exile. There are some folk stories that some saints had cursed this village. The saints did this due to the misdeeds of the arrogant king here. It is believed that since then Holi is not played here.

Tamil Nadu

In North India, when the full moon of Holi occurs, the festival of ‘Masi Magam’ is celebrated in the Tamil community. It is believed that on this day the souls of ancestors come to take bath in holy rivers and ponds. Respect is paid to the ancestors. This is the reason why the pomp of Holi is not seen in Tamil Nadu which is seen in North India.
