Two-time champion Ruud advances in Gstaad

Casper Ruud returned to action with a 7-5, 7-6(6) win over wild card Dominic Stricker to progress to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open in Gstaad.

The two-time champion competed for the first time since he lost in the second round at French Open.

“It was a very tough match against Dominic. We have played one time before. Of course I was seeking some revenge but he is a really good player, a young player,” Ruud said after his win.

“He plays aggressive, fearless and I knew I had to be on it from the beginning. This is my first match in a few weeks and I am happy to be back.”

Badosa out of DC Open with injury

Defending champion Paula Badosa pulled out from the DC Open, which begins next week, with a lower back injury.

“I’m going through a really tough time. Sometimes everything feels like a tunnel with no way out … but if I’ve always proven one thing, it’s that I never stop fighting,” she wrote on X.

“I want to sincerely thank all the people who are sending me their support, love, and energy during these difficult days.

“That encouragement sustains me and gives me the strength to keep going, even when everything seems uphill. Thank you for being there.”
