Holashtak 2026: Holi is a very sacred and famous festival of Hindu religion. Holika Dahan is performed every year on the full moon day of Phalgun month. Holi is played the next day, but in Hindu religion the eight days falling before Holi are considered very inauspicious. These days are known as Holashtak. When the king of planets, Sun, enters the zodiac signs Sagittarius and Pisces, then Kharmas occurs. In Hindu religion, Kharmas is considered an inauspicious period of one month. Auspicious and auspicious works are not done during this period. It is believed that auspicious works done during this period do not yield auspicious results.
Chaturmas
Chaturmas takes four months from Devshayani Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month to Devuthani Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. Since it is believed that during these four months, Lord Shri Hari Vishnu, the sustainer of the world, goes into Yoga Nidra and the governance of the world is in the hands of Lord Shiva. During this period, auspicious and auspicious works are completely prohibited in Hindu religion.
paternal side
Shraddha Paksha lasts from Bhadrapada Purnima to Amavasya of Ashwin month. It is also called Pitru Paksha. This period is of 16 days. During this time only Pitru Puja, Shraddha of ancestors, Tarpan and Pind Daan are done. During this period neither any auspicious work is done nor clothes and jewelery are purchased.
eclipse period
Solar eclipse and lunar eclipse are also given great importance in Hindu religion. Auspicious work is not done from the Sutak period of the eclipse till the end of the eclipse. Sutak period starts 9 hours before lunar eclipse and 12 hours before solar eclipse.
quintet
Panchak occurs when the Moon transits in Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Purvabhadrapada, Uttarabhadrapada and Revati Nakshatra. This is an inauspicious period of five days. Auspicious work is not done even in Panchak.
