‘Hit Her With Sticks’: RG Kar Victim’s Father Accuses Kolkata Police Of Assaulting Wife During Nabanna Abhiyan Rally

RG Kar case: The father of the RG Kar rape and murder victim on Monday alleged that the Kolkata police assaulted his wife during the Nabanna Abhiyan rally on August 9. Earlier on Saturday, the victim’s mother had also accused the state police of assaulting her and other protestors during the rally, called to mark the first anniversary of the rape and murder case at the RG Kar Medical College. The victim’s father also claimed that his wife was not admitted immediately after the incident, adding that they will take legal action into the matter. The BJP leaders also accused the TMC government of assaulting the protestors and snatching democratic rights of the citizens.

“The incident happened on August 9. The Trinamool government made us understand that you people could not do anything to us, whatever we did on the 9th, we did that, and yesterday also the same. Three-four women police personnel took my wife to the side, and hit her on the head and back with sticks,” victim’s father was quoted as saying by ANI.

– Police lathi charged the protestors after they tried to break the barricades set up by Kolkata police to restrict them from entering the no-protest zone.

– Protestors claimed that the state police assaulted them even though the protest was organised peacefully.

– Earlier on Saturday, the father of the victim, after meeting Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) Director Praveen Sood, expressed his dissatisfaction by stating that the probe agency had no answer to their questions.

– Trinamool Congress accused the BJP leaders of politicising the matter by claiming that residents of several districts have been called to participate in the protest.
