leftThe West Indies cricket team, which is on Bangladesh tour, has made a great start to the three-match T20 series. In the first T20 International played in Chattogram, West Indies defeated host Bangladesh by 16 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
The game of cricket is full of uncertainties and today once again we saw proof of this in this match.
Batsman out after being hit wicket
The last over of Bangladesh’s innings was going on and they needed 20 runs to win. Batsman Taskin Ahmed was present at the crease. Romario Shepherd bowled a short ball outside the off stump which suited the batsman perfectly. Taskin took the ball from the middle of the bat without making any mistake and hit a powerful pull shot. The ball went straight over the deep mid-wicket boundary and fell into the stands. It was a brilliant six.
But then an incident happened which put an end to this entire adventure. In fact, in a desperate attempt to hit a six, Taskin had gone too far back in his crease even before the ball arrived. In the process his foot accidentally hit the wicket and he dropped the bails. Even if the shot went for a six, as per the rules the batsman was declared ‘hit wicket’ as the wicket fell before the ball hit the bat.
West Indies won the match
Talking about the match, West Indies had a slow start after winning the toss and came to bat first, but the opening batsmen laid a strong foundation by saving wickets. At one time the team was in trouble after losing 3 wickets for 82 runs in 12.2 overs. In such a situation, captain Shai Hope and Rovman Powell took charge. Both of them made a stormy partnership of 83 runs for the fourth wicket. Powell, who was struggling early on, changed gears in the final overs and returned unbeaten on 44 off just 28 balls, which included 4 sixes. Shai Hope also played a brilliant inning of 46 runs in 28 balls. On the basis of the strong hitting of this pair, West Indies made a challenging score of 165 runs at the loss of 3 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Taskin Ahmed took 2 wickets for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s batting did not work
Bangladesh had a very bad start while chasing the target of 166 runs. The team lost 4 wickets in the powerplay itself and the score became 42 for 4. The top order batsmen including Liton Das could not stand against the spinners and fast bowlers of West Indies. In the middle order, Tauheed Hardoy scored 28 runs and in the lower order, Tanzeem Hasan Saqib tried to handle the team by playing fighting innings of 33 runs. Shakib and Nasoom Ahmed raised hopes of victory at one point but the West Indies bowlers kept the pressure on the hosts by taking wickets at regular intervals. In the end, the entire Bangladesh team was all out for 149 runs in 19.4 overs and lost the match by 16 runs.
