‘Historic moment’: Fans rejoice as Pakistan set up first-ever Asia Cup final against India

New Delhi: Pakistan sealed their spot in the Asia Cup final against India with a hard-fought 11-run victory over Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday, September 25. The arch-rivals will face each other in the Asia Cup final for the first time in 17 editions of the tournament.

Defending a 136-run target, Pakistan delivered a sensational bowling performance to restrict Bangladesh to 124/9 in 20 overs. Fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf picked up three wickets each. Saim Ayub also took two wickets, while Mohammad Nawaz picked up one wicket to complete Pakistan’s disciplined bowling effort.

Bangladesh, who had Pakistan reeling at 71/6 in the 14th over after opting to bowl, will regret letting the game slip with sloppy fielding and dropped catches.

Late cameos from Mohammad Haris (31 runs off 23 balls) and Mohammad Nawaz (25 runs off 15 balls) powered Pakistan to post a competitive total. Taskin Ahmed took three wickets, while Rishad Hossain and Mahedi Hasan picked up two wickets each.

India will take on Pakistan for the third time in the ongoing tournament, with the Men in Blue winning both games in the group and Super Fours stage of the Asia Cup.
