Historic change in electricity system in UP due to smart metering and solar energy. Up Energy Sector Smart Metering Solar Power Yogi Government

Under the leadership of Yogi government, Uttar Pradesh is becoming a model of technological change in the energy sector. More than 68 lakh smart meters and 3.20 lakh solar installations have been completed in the state, which has increased transparency, consumer interest and revenue.

Lucknow. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is witnessing rapid and effective technological change in the energy sector. The year 2025 has proved to be an important year of smart metering, transparency and consumer protection for the electricity system of Uttar Pradesh. So far 68,24,654 smart meters have been installed in the state.

Along with this, Uttar Pradesh is also continuously progressing in the field of solar energy. So far, 3,20,187 solar installations have been completed under PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Yogi government has implemented energy reforms keeping consumer interests at the center, which has made the power distribution system more transparent and effective.

Smart metering increases transparency and accountability

A total of 3,09,78,280 smart meters have been approved in Uttar Pradesh, out of which 68,24,654 meters have been installed. Electricity consumption is being tracked digitally through smart metering, enabling accurate billing and estimation of actual consumption.

Earlier, consumers used to have complaints due to estimate based billing, but now the confidence has increased due to getting bills based on actual usage. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath believes that smart metering is not just a technical improvement but also a strong medium of accountability towards consumers.

DT metering brings improvement in power distribution

To strengthen the power distribution system, special focus has been laid on Distribution Transformer (DT) metering. So far, 15,26,801 DT meters have been sanctioned, out of which 2,29,898 meters have been installed.

DT metering enables monitoring of power flow and consumption at each transformer. This has made it easier to identify which areas have high power losses and where improvements are needed. This system has made possible reduction in line loss and control on electricity theft.

Feeder metering strengthens power supply network

So far 25,224 feeder meters have been installed in the state. Through feeder metering, digital records of electricity supply and consumption are being prepared. This has improved the quality and reliability of power supply in both rural and urban areas. Due to strengthened network monitoring, the power system is becoming more stable.

Effective use of technology for consumer interests

The aim of Yogi government is not only technological upgradation but also to empower consumers. Through smart meters, consumers can now view real-time electricity consumption on mobile app or online portal. This has reduced billing disputes and consumers are able to have better control over their consumption. Online payment system has made electricity bill payment easy, transparent and secure, thereby strengthening the vision of Digital India.

Lakhs of consumers benefit from electricity bill relief scheme

The electricity bill relief scheme of Uttar Pradesh government is also getting widespread support. So far more than 16 lakh consumers have registered in this scheme. Through this the government has received a revenue of Rs 1323 crore. The highest number of registrations has taken place in Purvanchal Discom region, where more than 6 lakh consumers have availed the scheme.
