Many stories of Lord Vishnu and his exclusive devotees are prevalent in the mythology of Sanatan Dharma. But do you know that Jai and Vijay, the most beloved gatekeepers of Lord Vishnu himself, had to be born on earth as very cruel demons? This was not a simple coincidence, but a curse and part of God’s play. Let us know in detail what forms these two took in their three births, from Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashyap to Shishupala.
How did you get the curse?
According to the story, once Sanat Kumar along with his friend reached Vaikuntha Dham to have darshan of Lord Vishnu. At that time Jai and Vijay stopped them from entering. Angered by this, Sanat Kumars cursed him that he would be born in the form of a demon on earth for three births. Later, on the persuasion of Lord Vishnu, it was decided that he would be born as his enemy for three births and would return to Vaikuntha after dying at the hands of the Lord.
first born
In Satyayuga, Jai and Vijay were born as two real brothers. In the form of Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyaksha put the entire creation in danger by taking the earth to the underworld. Then God took the form of Varaha and killed him and re-established the earth. Hiranyakashipu obtained a boon from Brahma by performing rigorous penance and started considering himself invincible. He was a staunch opponent of God, but his son Prahlad was a devotee of Vishnu. Later, God took the form of Narasimha and killed Hiranyakashipu. This was his first birth, in which both the brothers ended up being incarnations of God.
second birth
In their second birth, they became the mighty demon brothers Ravana and Kumbhakarna of Lanka in Tretayuga. Ravana was a very learned and devotee of Shiva, but due to ego he abducted Mother Sita. Then Lord Vishnu incarnated as Shri Ram. There was a fierce battle between Ram and Ravana, in which both Ravana and Kumbhakarna were killed. In this way the second birth of Jai and Vijay also ended at the hands of God.
third birth
In his third and last birth, he was born as Shishupala Dantavakra in Dwaparayuga. Shishupala was an opponent of Lord Krishna since childhood. During the Rajsuya Yagya, he insulted God, after which Shri Krishna killed him with Sudarshan Chakra. Dantavakra was also killed by Lord Krishna in the mace fight. This was his last birth.
What was the purpose of these three births?
The basic purpose of these three births was that Jai and Vijay should die at the hands of God. Due to the curse, he had to be born in the form of a demon, but his connection with God was never broken. After dying at the hands of God, he again returned to Vaikuntha Dham and regained his original form.
