Hindu man lynched over alleged blasphemy amid protests in Bangladesh

Mymensingh: A Hindu man was lynched by a mob in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district on Thursday night over alleged blasphemy, as the country is witnessing unrest following the death of July Uprising leader Sharif Osman Hadi, according to BBC Bangla.

The victim, identified as Dipu Chandra Das, was a young garment factory worker who lived as a tenant in the Dubalia Para area of Bhaluka Upazila. Police said a group of local residents accused him of making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and attacked him around 9 pm.

Officials said the mob beat Das to death, tied his body to a tree and set it on fire. Police later reached the spot, brought the situation under control and recovered the body, which was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Authorities said no case has been registered so far, as efforts are underway to trace the victim’s family members. Legal proceedings will begin once a formal complaint is filed.
