Hinduism: If heaven is said to be at the feet of the mother, then the father is considered to be the ladder to that heaven. The place of father is considered very important in a Hindu family. The relationship between father and son is considered very sacred. Especially it is considered necessary that a son respect his father and maintain social order. There are some rules given in the scriptures for every aspect of life.
In religious scriptures like Manu Smriti and Garuda Purana, certain tasks are clearly mentioned which a son should not do while his father is alive. This is appropriate not only from the religious point of view but also from the social point of view. In such a situation, let us know about those works, according to the scriptures, which the son is prohibited from doing while the father is alive.
Son should not do this work while father is alive
Do not take father’s place
The father is considered the head of the family, hence the main functions of yagya, puja etc. in the house are performed by the father only. The son should not take the lead in these tasks while the father is alive. Doing so is considered wrong from religious point of view. Besides, it can also create chaos in the family system.
don’t trim your mustache
In ancient times, mustache was considered a symbol of respect between father and son. This is the reason that in olden times, the son never got his mustache cut during his lifetime before the death of his father. Therefore, it is forbidden to cut the mustache before the father’s death.
Don’t donate in your name
If a son makes a donation while his father is alive, it should be done in his father’s name. Donating in one’s own name while the father is alive is not considered appropriate in the scriptures, hence one should not do so.
No further enrollment in the program
The son should not put his name forward in any occasion or program during the father’s lifetime. The son should first enroll his father and then his own. This maintains harmony in the family and traditions are followed.
Do not offer Tarpan and Pind Daan to your ancestors.
The son himself should not offer Tarpan or Pind Daan to his ancestors while his father is alive. The father has the first right for this work. If the son does this, tradition and social rules are violated. Not only this, it is not considered correct even in the scriptures.
