A big and relief news has emerged for the unemployed youth of Himachal Pradesh. Now the common youth of the state will also be able to become a part of the police traffic system and in return they will also get the opportunity to earn respectable money. Himachal Police has started the Traffic Volunteer Scheme to strengthen traffic management, under which for the first time citizens will be directly involved in traffic management.
Scheme will provide employment opportunities
This scheme will not only provide employment opportunities to the youth but will also provide important support to the police in road safety and congestion control. Police believe that when local people become a part of the traffic system, road accidents will reduce and it will be easier to control the traffic problem of cities.
Youth will handle traffic
Under the scheme, volunteers will have to work only four hours a day, two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. In return, they will get an honorarium of Rs 40 to 50 per hour and can earn up to Rs 4000 in a month. Volunteers can also be given additional work during fairs, festivals and crowded events. Volunteers will assist the police in helping children during school hours, crowd control during tourist season, road safety awareness and maintaining traffic during office hours.
Who can become a traffic volunteer?
Police has kept the eligibility criteria very easy so that more and more youth of the state can participate in it.
- Minimum age is 16 years
- physically and mentally healthy
- resident of local police station area
- no criminal record
- socially responsible and disciplined
- Volunteers will also be given reflective jackets, caps and identity cards by the police, on which Traffic Volunteer will be clearly written.
New direction for transport system
DGP Ashok Tiwari said that this scheme is a big step towards improving road safety. He said that the Traffic Volunteer Scheme will increase public participation as well as make the traffic system more smooth. These volunteers will keep a better eye on the traffic situation and play an important role in implementing community policing on the ground.

Interested boys and girls can contact their nearest police station. Apart from this, application can also be made by filling the online form issued by Himachal Police. The process is easy and less documents will be asked for.
