Why did IMD release Himachal to Yellow alert till August 12?
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow alert in Himachal Pradesh till August 12. This means that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of the state. The condition is caused by the union of the south-west monsoon and western disturbance, causing a decline in strong winds, clouds and visibility.
More than 300 schools captive: big decision on safety of children
According to the Education Department, schools have already been closed in many subdivisions of Mandi and Shimla. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of children, as roads in hilly areas have become slippery and fatal.

Rain figures scare: 77% more rainfall
IMD scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma said that Himachal has received 77% more rainfall than the seasonal average so far. There has been heavy rainfall in Kasauli, Solan, 145 mm, 120 mm in Gohar in Mandi and also in Bilaspur. At the same time, all the districts except Lahaul-Spiti are facing more rain than normal.

- 7-8 August: Heavy rains likely in Shimla, Kullu, Sirmaur, Solan
